It is a printed requested on a card requesting him/her to attend some particular function (party/wedding/feast etc).
We all are aware of invitation cards, but
it could also be form of a letter to invite our friends / close relatives.

Formal Invitation :
} It
is in Printed Card Format

Passive Voice is used

is not mentioned anywhere, but address is given at the end.
} Receiver
is supposed to send its reply.

the end.
